Overview

Instrumentation, control, and power cables for every well, pipeline and plant.

Oil and gas is one of the toughest places a cable can work. On rigs, well pads, pipelines and refineries it has to carry measurement data, control signals and power while exposed to crude oil, drilling mud, chemicals, heat, salt spray and fire risk, often in hazardous areas where safety cannot be compromised.

Elegar Kerpen builds instrumentation, control, and power cables for upstream, midstream and downstream projects at our Chakan plant in Pune. We bring the Kerpen name, with more than a century in oil and gas cables, and every construction can be adapted to your project specification.

Value chain

From the well to the finished product.

Oil and gas moves through three stages, and each one puts a different load on a cable. We supply instrumentation, control, and power cables across all three, so one project can be sourced from one plant.

What they face

Six hazards an oil and gas cable is built against.

Oil and gas sites combine chemical, thermal, mechanical and electrical stress in the same cable run. Our constructions are designed around six of them.

Hydrocarbons and chemicals

Crude, fuels, aromatic solvents, acids and alkalis attack ordinary sheaths and creep into the core. Barrier sheaths and resistant compounds keep them out.

Drilling mud

Oil-based drilling fluids swell and crack general-purpose sheaths. Mud-resistant compounds, of the kind specified under NEK TS 606, hold their shape and strength on rigs.

Explosive atmospheres

Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas need cables selected to IEC 60079-14, with armour for mechanical protection and blue-sheathed cables to mark intrinsically safe circuits.

Fire

Flame-retardant constructions slow fire spread along trays, fire-resistant ones keep safety circuits running, and low-smoke, halogen-free sheaths protect people and equipment.

Electrical interference

Drives, motors and power cables run alongside 4–20 mA and fieldbus signals. Twisted pairs with individual and overall screens keep readings accurate.

Climate and mechanical load

Desert heat, arctic cold, UV, salt spray, crushing and rodents. Armour and UV-stable, cold-flexible sheaths keep the cable intact for its full design life.
